How to choose a padel racket

How to choose a padel racket

Three things shape how a padel racket plays: its shape, its weight and what it is made of. Get those right and the rest is personal taste.

Shape. A round racket keeps the sweet spot low and central: it forgives off-centre hits and gives the most control. A teardrop racket balances control and power. A diamond racket moves the weight towards the head for big smashes, but asks for a cleaner technique.

Weight and balance. A lighter racket with the balance near the handle is easier to manoeuvre and kinder on the arm; a heavier, head-heavy racket adds power. Check the weight and balance on each product page.

Core and face. A soft foam core gives a livelier feel at low speed, a firmer core rewards fast, hard hitting. Fibreglass faces feel softer, carbon faces stiffer and more precise.

Padel is mostly played in doubles on a 20 × 10 m court enclosed by glass walls you can play the ball off. The serve is underarm and the scoring is the same as tennis, so most players are rallying within minutes.

To get started you need three things: a racket that forgives mistakes, like our beginner padel rackets; a tube of padel balls, which bounce lower than tennis balls; and a pair of padel shoes that grip the court when you move sideways.

Add comfortable padel clothing and a padel bag to carry it all, and you are ready for your first match.

How to look after your padel racket

How to look after your padel racket

A padel racket is a foam core inside a fibreglass or carbon shell. Treat it well and it keeps its feel for longer.

Keep it out of the heat and the cold. Never leave it in a car on a hot or freezing day: extreme temperatures affect the core. A thermal padel bag keeps it protected between matches.

Protect the frame. Low balls and wall scrapes chip the edge. A frame protector from our padel accessories takes the knocks instead.

Refresh the grip. Once the overgrip feels smooth or no longer absorbs sweat, change it: a new overgrip costs little and gives you back control.

Wipe the face with a damp cloth after play, let it dry and store it in its cover.

Padel rackets

The racket is the heart of your game. Browse our padel rackets by shape, weight and balance, from round control rackets to diamond-shaped power rackets. New to the sport? Our beginner padel rackets put control and comfort first, so you can learn the game without fighting your racket.

Padel balls

Padel balls look like tennis balls but are pressurised for padel, so they bounce lower and suit the enclosed court. Keep a fresh tube in your bag: our padel balls cover training sessions and matches.

Padel shoes and clothing

Padel is played with short sprints and quick changes of direction. Padel shoes with a grippy sole and lateral support help you move safely, while breathable padel clothing keeps you comfortable from the first point to the last.

Bags, grips and accessories

Carry your rackets, balls and kit in a padel bag, keep your hold secure with grips and overgrips, and protect your racket with our padel accessories: frame protectors, wristbands, dampeners and more.

Padel questions

Which padel racket should I choose as a beginner?

Look for a round racket with a lower weight and a soft core: the sweet spot is larger and more central, so off-centre hits still go where you want. Our beginner padel rackets are selected with this in mind.

How much is UK delivery?

Standard UK delivery with Royal Mail is free and takes 7–9 working days. Need it sooner? Choose Priority delivery (5–7 working days) for £2.90 at checkout. Every order is dispatched within 24 hours on working days, and you will receive a tracking number by e-mail as soon as your parcel leaves us.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

We currently deliver to UK addresses only.

Can I return an item?

Yes. You have 30 days after delivery to change your mind and send an item back. Personalised items can only be returned if they are faulty or we made a mistake. See our returns policy.

Are padel balls the same as tennis balls?

No. They look alike, but padel balls have a lower internal pressure, so they bounce lower and suit the smaller, enclosed padel court. Use padel balls for the right bounce.

Do I need special shoes for padel?

They make a real difference. Padel involves lots of sideways movement on artificial grass or hard courts: padel shoes have a sole designed to grip those surfaces and more lateral support than running shoes.

How often should I change my overgrip?

As soon as it feels smooth, shiny or no longer absorbs sweat. How long that takes depends on how often you play and how much your hands sweat. Browse our grips and overgrips.

How do I track my order?

Every parcel is tracked. You will receive a tracking number by e-mail as soon as your order leaves us, and you can also follow it on our order tracking page.
